- War raged on in North Africa where German General Rommel displayed his remarkable military skills. - The war in Europe spread to the jungles of Southeast Asia where Australia and New Zealand troops tried to resist the Japanese Empire. - In 1942 the war's turning point came on the Russian front. Hitler created his own downfall when he stretched his resources and army to thin. Hitler lost over 100,000 men and his once invincible army was humiliated. From then on the Russian Red Army moved westward pushing back the Nazi invaders.- Soon after, allied victories followed in North Africa and on beaches of Italy.On June 6, 1944 the greatest invasion of history took place on the beaches of Northern France. It marked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe.
