(June 21)Racing to control a fast moving fire along the coast...VOX POP --- Officials in Northern California struggled to put out spreading flames in Santa Cruz county Friday.Two thousand residents had to be evacuated from their homes ---- And a number of homes were destroyed, but there is still no word on just how many.And fire crews say some 1 thousand acres of land have been burned.Helicopters and planes rushed to the scene, providing air support by dropping water and fire retardant. The cause of the fire remains under investigation....Officials say they have it 50 percent contained --- and are hoping to have it fully under control Saturday. ___ ___, The Associated Press.
