Thousands of people have been forced from their homes, after floods which claimed three lives in the north of England. The hazardous weather conditions have taken a severe toll on parts of Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Shropshire. In Sheffield, where the Meadowhall shopping centre has been forced to close due to major flooding, a huge clear-up operation is under way after more rain fell on the city than since records began 125 years ago, causing the deaths of a teenager and a pensioner. RAF helicopters were scrambled to rescue hundreds of people trapped in factories and offices in the Brightside Lane area.
