Violence threatens mideast truce

The latest escalation comes just hours after Hamas spelled out its conditions for a formal ceasefire. Key among them is an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza and the West Bank, and the reopening of its borders. Israel is playing down propects that an Egyptian-brokered truce may be imminent.
