Video-Enabled Smartphones Enhance Social Networking, Nokia's Kamar Shah

PALO ALTO--The Nokia N95 is becoming part of the Internet social networking phenomenon, Kamar Shah, the Global Head of Industry and Marketing at Nokia, says. Users can stream live video or e-mail pictures to friends from wherever they are, about whatever they're doing. Nokia's acquisition of digital mapping company Navteq last year has made these smart phone features more appealing to advertisers, Shah says, since it could help them to target users in specific locations. Mobile consumers are, well, mobile, and therefore more likely than their living room- and den-bound counterparts to spend money right away. This makes them a very attractive audience for advertisers. The evolution of social networking with the context of activity and location will be very important for Nokia in the future, according to Shah.
