Velvet Revolver's bid for freedom

Rock supergroup Velvet Revolver have just released their second album 'Libertad' - tellingly the word means 'freedom' in Spanish.Four years since the band formed, they are still trying to prove that they are more than the sum of their parts.Their backgrounds are pretty impressive - guitarist Slash, bassist Duff and drummer Matt are all ex-Guns and Roses while lead singer Scott used to front cult rock group Stone Temple Pilots.According to Slash, the record and forthcoming live shows will eclipse their individual fame, and even perhaps his monumental hair.It appears that the critics are convinced - Libertad has already received rave reviews.Respected rock producer Brendan O'Brian is credited with giving them an even darker sound - presumably to compliment lyrics which touch on things like drugs, war and death.Singer Scott Weiland insists that the band's approach on this album gives true fans exactly what they want.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
