Supermodel Naomi Campbell could be nearing a plea deal to settle the assault charge against her, a New York state prosecutor said on Wednesday (November 15). The British-born model was back in Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday (November 15), accused of assaulting housekeeper Ana Scolavino with a cell phone. "We are still in the process of working out a possible disposition," Assistant District Attorney Shanda Strain told Judge Evelyn Laporte. The judge set a new hearing for Jan. 16, when Campbell could either accept a plea deal or possibly be charged with second-degree assault. The judge also granted Strain's request to extend an order that bans Campbell from having any contact with Scolavino. Campbell's attorney David Breitbart says Campbell is being unfairly treated by the media. "She's, she's just being taken for granted. The press is jumping all over her because of an accusation and I don't think that that's right. We're supposed to be able to finish our case before Naomi gets bad press. The 36-year-old celebrity model faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of second-degree assault.
