Heavy storms swept through the midwestern city of Detroit, Michigan on Friday (August 24, 2007), causing flooding and stranding drivers. Floodwaters along the I-75 interstate reached several feet deep and winds gusted to 70 mph during evening rush hour. With almost a million residents, Detroit is one of the largest cities in the midwest. The storms in Detroit follow thunderstorms that have battered parts of the central United States for days.The flooding has driven hundreds from their homes across the region.
