Actor Michael J. Fox, who suffers from Parkinson's disease is appearing in television ads endorsing candidates who support stem cell research. Fox, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1991, is helping to to put stem cell research on the minds of voters as election day nears. Fox taped a series of campaign ads for several candidates. Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh accused Fox of faking tremors during his campaign ad for Missouri Senate Candidate Claire McCaskill. Limbaugh said "He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He is moving all around and shaking. And it's purely an act." Fox recorded a similar ad for Maryland Senate Candidate Ben Cardin. Fox, while campaigning for congressional candidate Tammy Duckworth outside Chicago on Tuesday (October 24) said "These answers that we look for, the cures, these big breakthroughs, they don't just fall out of the sky. We have to go get them. We have to seek them out and do the legwork required. And it involves some tough decisions and we have to respect everybody's opinion." Fox and the late actor Christopher Reeve, are a part of a growing list of celebrities who advocate the promotion of stem cell research.
