USA: Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Robert DeNiro attend the world premiere of 'The Good Shepherd' in New York.

Spies, secrets, and Angelina Jolie. That was the scene at New York's Ziegfeld Theater on Monday (December 11, 2006) for the world premiere of "The Good Shepherd." Jolie, Matt Damon, and Robert De Niro took to the red carpet to talk about tales of espionage in their new thriller. "The Good Shepherd" follows the spy career of character Edward Wilson, played by Damon, and the establishment of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Damon may be the star of the film, but the red carpet turned into a frenzy of flashbulbs when Jolie, who plays his wife in the movie, arrived at the theater. After posing for a few pictures, Jolie commented that her travels around the globe have made her more interested in political films. However, she said, there's always room for classic entertainment. "Yes, absolutely. So this one and the film about Danny Pearl, but at the same time I think entertainment films are wonderful and I watch them with my kids and there's something important about them as well," said Jolie. Brad Pitt, Jolie's boyfriend and the father of her seven-month-old daughter Shiloh Nouvel, was on hand to give support, but shied away from the press. Jolie told reporters they were planning on a vacation for the holidays. "We're travelling. And we're trying to get them (the kids) to focus on other people which is kind of hard for kids," said Jolie. Damon knew the press attention was focused on Jolie, and joked that Pitt may have been jealous about his on-camera relationship with her. "I think there was weirdness for Brad. I think my incredible sex appeal probably freaked him out a little bit, made him a little insecure. And I get that," he said. In addition to starring Robert De Niro, "The Good Shepherd," was also directed by him. The film was his first directorial effort since his debut feature, "A Bronx Tale" in 1993. Despite having a reputation of being shy, Damon said that De Niro is a pro behind the camera. "He's very communicative. I always knew what he needed and he's very particular and attentive to every little detail. He's famous, legendary really, for his attention to detail. Yeah, he was fantastic as a director. He was everything I could have hoped for, and I hoped for a lot," said Damon. De Niro said he chose to create the film because he has a passion about the Cold War and times of Russian and U.S. espionage. "The whole east, west Cold War, KGB versus CIA, that's all great stuff. Espionage, spies, it's all great. I've grown up in the cold war, and it's scary, too. It was scary . So I've always been intrigued by it, fascinated by it," he said. As for whether De Niro will wait another 13 years to direct again is still up for question. Asked if he'll direct again soon, he simply said, "I don't know. I'll see. Hopefully, we'll see." "The Good Shepherd" opens in U.S. theaters on December
