Young England and Tottenham Hotspurs star Aaron Lennon said on Monday (December 18) that the international squad could win the next World Cup and his best days are yet to come. Lennon missed Spurs' 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday because of a recurring knee problem, for which he had an operation in August, but speaking during a visit to youngsters at a London hospital, the 19-year-old said specialists thought it was nothing unusual. "They're not really surprised, there have been so many amount of games. Once you've had that operation your knee is not used to this amount of pressure on the knee, so I'm happy with it, so it'll be all right." The attacking midfielder is a former Young Player of the Year who became the youngest ever Premiership player in August 2003, playing for Leeds against Spurs at the age of 16 years and 129 days; he joined Spurs in July 2005 and was then selected for England. Asked if he could be a regular for England on the right, possibly alongside Steven Gerrard, Lennon said: "There's a chance for me to play there now. 'Stevie G' (Steven Gerrard) has been playing out there as well and like, Stevie G is one of the best players in the world, if not the best and me personally, it's brilliant to be part. My aim is to get in the England team, but it's just brilliant to be involved in it." Lennon played in three World Cup games in Germany and when asked what was his dream, replied: "The World Cup of course. It will always be my main aim. I always said as a young boy I wanted to win the World Cup final and that is still my aim and I still think if you look at England, there's a great chance that we could achieve that hopefully." In spite of the knee problem, Lennon said his best is yet to come. "I think that I'm improving all the time and I think each year I'm getting better and better and I still think there's a lot more to come from me really. I'm training hard and I'm looking at all aspects of my game and I don't think the best of me has been out yet." Spurs face Southend in the Carling Cup on Wednesday, but it was not certain whether Lennon would play.
