This episodes guest is Dr. O'Conor. Dr. OConor is the founder and director of the Maya Center for Integrated Medicine & Research a holistic health & wellness organization committed to delivering higher consciousness healthcare by informing, educating, and integrating evidence based complementary and alternative medical therapies into conventional medical health care. Dr. OConors current efforts are focused around delivering complementary and alternative healing therapies to cancer patients and those at the end of life. Dr. OConor has led an integrated medicine program in the Respite House, and is now establishing a similar integrated healing program for Cancer patients in the community. Dr. OConor was originally trained as a nurse practitioner from the University of Washington. Since moving to New England in 1990, she attended graduate school at Dartmouth Medical School, Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences where she earned her second Masters degree and a doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology, and quality improvement in health care systems. She currently holds faculty positions in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, Dartmouth Medical School; and College of Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Vermont where she teaches course on spirituality, healing, and health and wellness. Dr. OConor has served in several key leadership positions including managing large international clinical trials projects for the Vermont Oxford Network, and directing an integrative medicine research initiative for Childrens Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She has published many peer-reviewed papers, books and manuals, and has lectured regionally and nationally on evidence-based medicine in health care.
