Record breaker Ashrita Furman broke balancing the tallest object on one's chin for a minimum of 10 seconds in Turkey on Monday (December 11). Furman already holds a number of records in the Guinness Book of Records. Due to windy conditions, Furman made two unsuccessful attempts but finally managed to balance a 16.6-metre fiberglass pole (54.6 feet) for 13.8 seconds to capture the record. Although this is a new category in the Guinness Book, Furman had to surpass 13 meters because pole balancers in Japan have attained that height. "We just broke the record, we did 16.6 metres and it's the tallest object balanced on your chin and you have to hold it for 10 seconds. So we did it even though it was quite windy - we managed to do it and I''m very very happy," said Furman. If accepted, this would be Furman's 53rd current Guinness record and his 133rd record overall since he started breaking records in 1979. Furman's other records include doing 19.6 kilometres (12.2 miles) of forward rolls and playing 424 games of hopscotch in 24 hours. He attributes his success at breaking records to his practice of meditation.
