Turkey and Egypt sought to improve their strategic relations with a meeting with meetings between Hosni Mubarak and top level Turkish officials including Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Chief of Staff Yasar Buyukanit to discuss regional and international issues as well as bilateral issues. Early on Thursday (March 22) President Mubarak and his Turkish counterpart Sezer held a joint press conference after their meeting. "In our meeting the regional and bilateral issues between two countries have been held. We have been agreed that the peace process that will lead to the establishment of independent Palestinian state should be activated. Furthermore the similar effort should be expended to enable stability, the national consensus and integrity in Iraq," Mubarak said. "We have been agreed that two countries attitude to support United Nations policies towards international issues. We are also aginst the spread of all kind nuclear and mass destruction weapons. The policies of international society's fight aginst terror should be supported," he added. The two countries share similar concerns over the possible disintegration of Iraq and a mutual understanding exists between Ankara and Cairo on issues concerning Iraq. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak arrived Ankara for two day offical visit on Thursday (March 22). His visit comes only days before a planned summit of the Arab League which will be held on March 28 and 29 in Riyadh.
