Almost 48 hours after a train crash on the West Coast Main Line in Cumbria two signals inspectors are to be questioned under caution by police. It has also emerged that there was a backlog of inspection work over the entire North West Coast mainline. It is thought that faulty points are the likeliest cause. An interim report into the crash will be released on 26th February. Rough terrain and bad weather are hampering the removal of wrecked carriages from where they fell down an embankment. One person died in the crash, but there are not otherwise thought to be life-threatening injuries, partly due to brave action by the train's driver in steering the train to safety.
