TRANSPORT: Rail: 'Ambitious' plans to improve railway network unveiled

A White Paper has been unveiled which sets out a multi-million pound programme of rail improvements, which the Government has called "the most ambitious plans for expanding the railway for 50 years". Plans include longer trains, more carriages on the most overcrowded routes and money to ugrade 150 stations. Ticket prices will apparently be 'simplified', but unions and rail users are worried that fares will end up soaring to pay for it all.
