This is the scene that set the tone for the entire 1986 film. I started production in March of 2008 and had alot of trouble along the way. It was a tough debate to go with digitally made sets. I started by building sets made of pvc and polystyrene and painting backdrops but then remembered my original idea: To just replace the characters with toys. 90% of all the backgrounds had to be completely re-drawn using different photo editing softwares. So I stuck with that concept and got this. To keep it looking smooth, I used almost the same amount of frames used in the film. In some shots, more so. All the laser blasts and explosions were drawn with my mouse on photo editing softwares. As for the action figures, I took pictures with basic 3 point lighting in front of a green screen, isolated the characters, placed them onto the re-drawn backgrounds, then put them frame by frame into Imovie to create motion, which just took too damn long. I then teamed up with three friends who use editing softwares that did all of that quickly. I plan to re-do all the scenes from the animated 1986 movie so expect more to come.
