Hollywood star Jason Statham has said he's poised to shed his tough guy image by starring in a rom-com.Speaking at the world premiere of his latest film, The Bank Job, he said: "We are just waiting for a decent enough script. I'm not just going to do a romantic comedy for the sake of it."For the meantime, he's sticking with action and thrillers and The Bank Job sees him star as a car dealer who gets involved in a bank heist to recover a haul of jewels, money and incriminating photos of a royal and other influential figures. The film is based on actual events in 1971, when criminals tunnelled under London's Baker Street to bust a bank. Conspiracy theorists claim it was staged by a Government agency. The theory goes that the robbery, known as the "walkie-talkie robbery" in the press until a Government "D notice" banned reports for 35 years, was actually designed to seize illicit items pertaining to murder, corruption and a sex scandal involving the Royal Family - placed in the vault as collateral by a Caribbean gangster. Also treading the red carpet were other stars of the film, including Daniel Mays, Colin Salmon, Suchet, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Tim Vincent and Gareth Gates. The premiere raised money through ticket sales for a children's charity.© Independent Television News Limited 2008.
