Since the home-loan crisis in the United States and the repercussions around the world, the media have been talking about the possibility of a recession. But German companies say their order books are full for years in advance. The British news magazine "The Economist" reports that, since the second half of 2007, the word "recession" has been used more often than at any time since the last actual recession, in 2001. The Ifo Institute reports a similar frequency of the word's use in Germany. But the industry's increase in turnover in 2007 was the third-highest since reunification in 1990.
