The Cook Islands: Cultural Perfomances

Dorothia George: The Cook Islanders are world known for their dance performances in colourful costumes. Their dancing is fast with lots of hip swinging, and the drum musicians play on hollowed out slit drums called pate. Some performances tell stories, which are accompanied by slow music and dancing, with movements of the whole body to make the expressions associated with the story.
