Little Wednesday is in love with Robespierre Courtney from school, so Morticia decides to invite the boy's family over for tea. The boy's mother, socially ambitious Eleanor, is thrilled by the invitation as she hopes to meet the prominent Mrs. Abigail Quincy Adams (one of Gomez's cousins by marriage) who has recently come to town. Wednesday gives him dance lessons, and Fester gives him advice, but this only makes Lurch want to kill himself. With no options left, Grandmama spikes Trivia's drink with a love potion.

Uncle Fester accidentally burns down the family's giant stuffed polar bear while trying to light Gomez's cigar with a flame thrower. Gomez calls the insurance company to make a claim, enraging the company's manager, Mr. Henson. His clerk, Mr. Digby, was supposed to have canceled the Addams family's coverage months ago. When Henson and Digby see the incident's reenactment, Henson is furious and refuses to replace the bear and fires Digby on the spot, prompting Gomez to start his own insurance company specializing in other insurance rejects.

Morticia is worried the they may be overworking poor Lurch. She expresses her concern to Gomez, and he concurs. He decides to build Lurch a robot to alleviate the workload and names the automated assistant Smiley. Lurch isn't too thrilled until he realizes that he is now in a position of authority as the "Head Butler." He soon stops doing any work himself, sending Smiley to do every task. However, when it seems that the family no longer needs their Head Butler for anything, Lurch fears he may lose his job and vows to stop Smiley.

Then Cousin Itt suggests Kitty Cat may just be sick, so Gomez calls their witch doctor M'Bogo to come make a house call, but M'Bogo refuses. Finally, they call in the aid of Dr. Marvin P. Gunderson, a local veterinarian, but the poor doctor is terrified of his patient. Assuming the good doctor only needs some self-confidence, various members of the family begin faking ailments, so Dr. Gunderson may "cure" them.

It seems former truant officer, Sam Hilliard, has been doing quite well for himself. Gomez and Morticia discover that their dear old friend is now running a private school called Mockridge Hall. They have been unsatisfied with the public school system's treatment of their children, so they agree that Pugsley and Wednesday must be enrolled in Mockridge Hall and put in the care of dear Mr. Hilliard. Hilliard is less than thrilled to have the Addams family back in his life, but he is unable to turn down the large amount Gomez has offered for tuition.

Ophelia returns to the Addams mansion singing the same sad tune: she has lost another man, Montrose, to the Peace Corps. Uncle Fester offers to help by joining the Peace Corps himself to look for Montrose and bring him back. Fester is confident that he would be a shoo-in for the Corps, but after he takes the exam, Fester is sent home, and the family is notified of his rejection. They dare not break the bad news to Fester, as he has gotten so attached to the plan, so they decide to try and convince him to stay by making him feel utterly indispensable.

When Mrs. Digby compliments the home's decor, Morticia offers to do their home. Not wishing to insult Joe's clients, Eleanor tries to get out of the offer by claiming she can't afford Morticia. Morticia feels sorry for the couple and sends them pieces with which to decorate their home, one being a genuine antique desk Uncle Fester wanted to get rid of. Eleanor loves the desk, and feeling she had misjudged Morticia, allows her to redesign their house.

Then it is suggested that she act young, but she goes too far with that too, and her strange behavior is making Morticia wonder if her mother may indeed need the help of an institution.

They agree that a treasure hunt at sea would make for a delightful adventure, so they hire the services of Captain Grimby and his ship and pay him $200,000 for his services. The money awakens the green-eyed monster within the old sailor, and Captain Grimby and his first mate, Brack, hatch a plan to break into the Addams mansion and steal the family fortune.

Fester receives a letter from his French pen pal, Yvette, informing him she is coming to visit. Fester decides he'll need to get in shape as Yvette is from the famed Folies Bergere. He begins to diet and exercise, watching Jack La Lanne on television and taking steam baths in the mummy sarcophagus. Gomez and Morticia are confounded by his strange behavior and worry that he may be ill. Then Fester accidentally hypnotizes himself, and Morticia seizes the opportunity to question him, concluding that Fester is trying to become an astronaut.

He claims one side for him and Grandmama and makes the other the domain of Gomez and Morticia, confusing poor Lurch who gets stuck in the middle. Then, to add insult to injury, Morticia hires a governess to watch the children while she and Gomez go on an outing to watch a hurricane.

Uncle Fester receives a letter with a photo of one of his pen pals, Diana, the Beaded Lady. He takes one look at the picture and becomes so enamored that he immediately writes her back to propose marriage. Morticia is concerned about Fester's infatuation, so she hatches a plan to try and get Fester to give up his romance. She dons a beard and poses as Diana's mother, telling Fester that he is unworthy of her "daughter" as he is unable to financially support a wife. Unfortunately, Morticia's plan backfires and her criticism only emboldens Fester to find a job and prove her wrong.

He brings along his daughter, Consuela, who - unbeknownst to Gomez - has been promised to Gomez since childhood. Consuela, believing that Morticia is Gomez's sister, tells Morticia and Grandmama the reason for their visit: to see her married to Gomez. Morticia is distraught while Gomez remains oblivious until it is spelled out for him by the elder gentleman. Of course Gomez refuses the marriage, putting his long friendship - and his life - in jeopardy.

They learn he is currently working at the DMV, so Gomez decides to get a driver's license in order to have his picture taken.

There is a criminal loose in the Addams' neighborhood! A string of robberies have occurred in the area, so the family takes up arms and keeps watch to prevent becoming the burglar's next vicitms. One night, Uncle Fester and Morticia find a store of stolen loot in their basement and discover that the cat burglar is actually a sleep-walking Gomez! With the stealing unceasing and the police closing in, the family must find a way to learn the reason behind Gomez's criminal streak and put and end to it before he winds up in prison.

Puglsey has fallen for his teacher, Miss Dubar, and tries to woo her with a love letter. Unfortunately, young Pugsley lacks the verbal prowess necessary to ignite a woman's heart, so he copies one of Gomez's old letters and sends it to Miss Dunbar. The mousey teacher is shocked by the amarous note and goes to the Addams mansion to speak with Pugsley's parents. When Miss Dunbar begins telling Gomez of the letter, he starts reciting it from memory, causing the woman to think it was Gomez who had sent it. Unused to this attention from men, Miss Dunbar pounces on Gomez, and the two are caught by Uncle Fester, who goes to report Gomez's infidelity to an outraged Morticia.

Morticia feels idle and determines it is due to lack of artistic fulfillment. She decides to take up sculpting and quickly finishes her first work: a three-eyed statue of Gomez. Unfortunately, it looks more like a large, rocky blob, and when Gomez invites art critic, Bosley Swain, to get his opinion, Swain begins clubbing the sculpture with his cane. Of course, Gomez cannot bare to see his beloved upset, so he hires seedy art dealer, Sam Picasso, to purchase the piece - and all of Morticia's subsequent works - nearly going bankrupt in the process.

Her fervor worries Gomez who is afraid of losing his wife. His apprehension grows after he reads the manuscript Morticia gives him to submit to the publisher. It's genius! Sure that success will steal his beloved away forever, Gomez engages in some literary sabotage.

The fun is interrupted when Wednesday returns from trick-or-treating in tears. A neighbor has just told her there are no such things as witches! Fortunately, Uncle Fester has been toying with his chemistry set and has concocted a potion apparently capable of growing hair on anything! After some successful experimenting on a doorknob, Thing's box, and his own bald head, he agrees to try the remedy on an increasingly frantic Itt.

It's little Wednesday's birthday, and Gomez has decided to surprise his daughter with a play. He casts Morticia as the female lead, Cousin Itt (who has recently been suffering from self-esteem issues) as her leading man, and even hires the famous Eric von Bissell to direct the production. When Bissell has Itt undergo voice coaching to learn to speak slower, the now discernible Itt becomes corrupted by the possibility of fame and fortune, and becomes impossible to work with.
