Pero el futuro en el que Connor fue levantado para creer es cambiado en parte por el aspecto de Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), un forastero cuya última memoria es de estar sobre el corredor de la muerte. Connor debe decidir si Marcus ha sido enviado del futuro, o rescatado del pasado. Como Skynet prepara su ataque final, Connor y Marcus emprenden una odisea que los toma en el corazón de las operaciones de Skynet, donde ellos destapan el secreto terrible detrás de la aniquilación posible de humanidad.
