Everyone knows the Oscars, the Academy Awards for the best movie actors and directors. But there are also awards for pioneering technological developments in the film industry. Two German companies are among the prizewinners this year. Machines made by Ottec, a company with a staff of 10 in Hanover, produce fog. The Munich company Flowline developed software to make astonishingly realistic computer simulations of natural forces like wind, water and fire. Flowline created scenes in blockbusters like "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and "Poseidon". The two companies' business managers have packed their bags to attend the awards on February 9 in Beverly Hills.
