Representatives of the Italian government joined Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone and other Vatican officials to bid farewell to the Pope at Fiumicino Airport. The Holy Father's trip, titled, "Christ Our Hope," is Benedict XVI's first visit to the United States since becoming Pope. His journey will begin with a welcome by President Bush, who will meet with the Pope again the following morning in the White House. The trip lasts until Sunday and will take place in Washington, DC and New York, where he will visit the United Nations and spend a prayerful moment at Ground Zero, besides meeting with the local Church and American society in general.
