Tamil Tiger rebels launch their first ever air raid attack on a military air base in Colombo, Sri Lanka on the 27th of March 2007. This coming after they had signed a peace treaty with the Sri Lankan government in Norway 2001. Though the peace agreement and ceasefire is still in progress, over 4000 people have been killed on both sides in the last five years. The Tamils control the North Eastern part of the island and have steadily increased their hold on surrounding areas up until 2001, when they stopped advancing. Their main demand is for a separate independent Tamil state. Tamil Tigers were the first group to use the suicide-belt bomb.
