The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan was presented to the Syrian Honour Guard on Monday (July 16) by his counterpart Bashar al-Assad. Sheikh Khalifa, who is on the second day of a state visit to Syria, later continued talks with Assad on improving bilateral relations between the two countries and on the latest developments in the region. Separately, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, who accompanied Sheikh Khalifa on the visit, held talks with his Syrian counterpart Farouq al-Shara at the Foreign Ministry in Damascus. Last year, Syria signed nine agreements with UAE in the fields of communications, customs, transportation and e-learning in addition to agreements of cultural, educational and media. Khalifa is due to visit Algeria and France following his visit to Syria.
