The latest cast to board the Starship Enterprise have been boldly going down the red carpet at the Sydney Opera House. This is the 11th Star Trek movie in 30 years and its markedly younger cast will be hoping to breathe new life into a well-known name. Stars include Chris Pine, who steps into William Shatner's role as Captain James Kirk, Eric Bana, who plays a villainous Romulan and Zachary Quinto, who inherits Leonard Nimoy's Mr Spock. Director JJ Abrams from Lost and Mission Impossible III fame said he had never been a Trekkie but was a fan of the original TV series which was launched in 1966. But while staying faithful to the Star Trek name, he said he aimed to take the film in an unexpected direction, back to the never-before seen 23rd century launch of the Starship Enterprise.
