B R E A K I N G N E W S - Landmark Appeal Fails! 25 March, 08. New York Federal court upholds compensatory and punitive damages award against world's largest smoke alarm manufacturer. The Federal Court's Summary Order states, "the [ionization] smoke detector's failure was a legal cause of the deaths of William and Christine Hackert." Campaigners warn that the ionization type of smoke alarm, the type found in most homes globally, should be immediately banned from sale and recalled. In July 2007, before performing their own 'Aquarium Test' on Indiana State TV, Investigative Reporter Bob Segall wrote to the World Fire Safety Foundation: “…WTHR-TV conducted our own version of your Aquarium Test yesterday. After seeing your test, I thought I was prepared for what I might see in our experiment. I was still shocked to see the results with my own eyes. (I do not shock easily.) In both of our tests, the ionization smoke alarms NEVER sounded -- despite an aquarium FULL of smoke and CO levels that reached 999 ppm (the maximum reading on the CO detector). The photoelectric alarms sounded within ten seconds of being exposed to the smoke.” The Aquarium Test can easily and inexpensively be performed by any fire-fighter anywhere in the world. Its purpose is to inspire fire-fighters to conduct the International Association of Fire Chief’s 1980, full-scale test which proves the deadly nature of ionization type smoke alarms. After the film please help us and everyone you know by sending them to this website so they can learn how to properly protect their family from fire - Thank You.
