Vertigo has not stopped Sir Ranulph Fiennes planning to climb the north face of the Eiger. The explorer is preparing to face his final frontier in a charity challenge as he faces a 6,000 ft wall of rock and ice towering above the Swiss Alps.Sir Ranulph is hoping to raise £1.5 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care and to conquer his own fear of heights.During training, the 62-year-old had a lucky escape when a lump of ice fell on his head.He said: "A French team climbing much higher up above us dislodged some ice, a piece of which crashed on to my helmet."Fortunately I was firmly fixed to a safety point but if I hadn't been wearing the helmet or if the ice had hit me on the shoulder, things could have gone differently."© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
