Singapore Night Safari (Part 1): Nights of the Wild

When at Singapore, you must go for the Night Safari- the world’s first nocturnal zoo. Here you can get the opportunity to see the wilds in their true wild spirits for their ‘day’ begins in our night. Spread across forty hectares of humid tropical forests, located near the Singapore Zoo, a tour of this park will help to unravel the enchanting mystery of the wild. No wonder Night Safari is one of the most famous tourist destinations of Singapore. This singular zoo has more than 1000 animals, covering 120 species. After the Sun sets, this zoo wakes up in the brightness of numerous lights, which illuminate the dark-green contours of this jungle of a park. This luminosity is enough for the visitors to spot the animals, but not too much to disturb them. Around 700 lampposts are there in the park to provide sufficient illumination. The visitors can easily view the animals moving freely in the park during the night. The nocturnal park is demarcated into eight geographical zones, which can be covered through walking trails or tram. Dr. Ong Swee Law, who was the former Executive Chairman of the Singapore Zoo, came up with the idea of a nocturnal zoo, way back in the 1980s. The park was officially opened on the 26th of May 1994, and since then has been attracting a galore of visitors every year. Its total visitor count has exceeded 11 million recently.
