Simon Cowell: 'Susan Boyle faces competition'

Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell insists the show isn't a one-horse race despite the popularity of Susan Boyle. The juggernaut of public support behind Britain's latest and possibly most unlikely singing sensation continues to gather momentum. The 47-year old spinster from Blackburn, West Lothian, has wowed the public and Hollywood stars alike with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream from the musical Les Miserables, for the ITV show. Show judge Piers Morgan described her rendition as "an incredible performance", while fellow judge Amanda Holden told her it was a "complete privilege" to listen to her singing. But competition judge Simon Cowell said it was too early to describe the show as a "one horse race" and said there are still a number of performers yet to appear. Asked if he would take on the Scot if she won the competition or not, Cowell replied: "It's difficult to say at this stage because I think we've got to treat it as it is, which is a competition. "There are some acts that you haven't seen yet, it's not quite the one-horse race you are going to think this is." Boyle, an unemployed church volunteer, sang Cry Me A River for a charity CD produced for the Millennium. It is thought to be her only previous recording. The recording can be heard at www.westlothian.gov.uk/sitecontent/news/latest/susan. Bookmakers have continued to slash odds on her running out as overall winner of the show, despite the competition only being one week old. Ms Boyle, complete with her distinctive curly locks, won over a sceptical audience to become a global phenomenon following her appearance on the show. Her rendition was also watched by millions online. Actress Demi Moore said she was reduced to tears by the performance after watching with husband Ashton Kutcher. After seeing the Scot sing online, Kutcher reportedly wrote on Twitter that it "just made my night". Ghost star Moore replied: "You saw it made me teary!" But the woman at the centre of all the fuss appears unfazed by the attention. Speaking from her home, Ms Boyle said: "I just take it all in my stride, I'm enjoying it. I haven't had time to think!" Asked what it meant to her to get such support from Moore and Kutcher, Ms Boyle said: "That's overwhelming. That's something else." Questioned about her chances of winning, she replied: "I can only do my best, like everybody else." She added that she was "looking forward to seeing the judges again".
