Sanofi Patent Losses to Erase $1.86 Billion in 2012

Feb. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Christopher Viehbacher, chief executive officer of Sanofi, discusses the company's 13 percent increase in fourth-quarter profit reported today and the expiration of its Plavix blood-thinner and Avapro hypertension drug patents. Viehbacher, speaking with Bloomberg Television's Caroline Connan in Paris, said cheaper copies of Plavix and Avapro will wipe out about 1.4 billion euros ($1.86 billion) in profit this year.
