Eva Mendes and Samuel L Jackson braved the rain in Los Angeles to celebrate the launch of their new flick The Spirit. Mendes shined at the premiere in a yellow strapless Bill Blass gown and talked about how she is proud to be in the film. "I think it's beautiful, I think it's a really visual treat, it's unbelievable. I am so proud to be a part of it because I get to play a woman who was written in the 1940's. She is a real dame, a real broad you know," she said. Jackson plays the arch-enemy of the film's title character called The Octopus. He said he has wanted to work with director Frank Miller for a long time. The film is Miller's directorial debut after two hugely successful Hollywood adaptations of his own works, Sin City and 300. Based on Will Eisner's comic strip series of the same name, the story follows a rookie cop who returns from the dead with supernatural powers.
