RETRACTION: I am now, for the most part, against the extensive use of altitude drops as an explosive method, due to the suggestions of the greatest sport scientist of all time, Dr. Yuri Verkhoshanski. I beleive that they can have some good use if used only in extremely small amounts as a CNS intensive training stimulus, but because a concentric contraction does not follow the drop, the process of the tendon-muscle interaction is not specific to jumping. This is a high intensity plyometric workout example. This type of workout is typically only prescribed once every 4 days to 2 weeks. Plyometric "shock" work is the most effective way to improve leaping ability and particularly single leg leaping ability. This type of workout is not suitable for beginners. Finally, I used too high of a box for my current skill level on the altitude drops, and I realize that!
