The incident occurred near the Tashkent shopping mall at about 7:45 p.m. Moscow time. Abashilov and his driver were inside a Hyundai Sonata. The assailants opened submachine gunfire and escaped. Abashilov died instantly. His driver was taken to hospital. A forensic team is working on the crime scene. A federal task force will investigate the murder, a source at the Prosecutor General's Office told Itar-Tass. Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika said he would personally supervise the investigation. Abashilov is a local celebrity. "A signal about a fire in his apartment came an hour after midnight. Firefighters arrived and, putting out the fire, found the body of Shurpayev on the bed.
