Eighties superheroes the Transformers have rolled out on to big screens in the UK.The robots in disguise have broken box office records in the US and the makers will be hoping audiences over here will be equally enthusiastic.The toys achieved huge popularity some 20 years ago and although a cartoon series was created they never made it to the cinemas until now.Armageddon director Michael Bay has given the Transformers a 21st century makeover.The film uses the latest in CGI technology as two sets of robots battle for supremacy on earth.Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots, sent to protect mankind from Megatron and his evil army of Decepticons.Hotly-tipped newcomer Shia La Bouef plays Sam Witwicky - a teenager who buys his first car only to discover it's an autobot and Megan Fox plays his love interest© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
