Radiohead have nabbed the number one spot in the UK album charts, three months after making their record available for free. The indie group saw their release, In Rainbows, hit the top spot after it was finally released on CD last week. The collection of songs had previously been available to download online at the price fans thought it was worth, in a move by Radiohead to break away from the traditional music business model. But the band won't reveal how many people have downloaded the album from their website or how much they have paid since it was made available last October. In Rainbows is the fifth number one album in the UK for the popular band who have beaten off competition from Take That who have taken second place in the charts with Beautiful World, as Leona Lewis comes in at number three with Spirit.X Factor winner Leon Jackson held on to number one in the singles chart with When You Believe for the third week running.© Independent Television News Limited 2008.
