The Government is facing another setback for their beleaguered Home Information Packs with some leading lenders refusing to give mortgages based on information contained within the HIPs. HSBC and Barclays, two of the country's largest lenders, have said they would not accept certain types of property searches and may require buyers to commission another report. HIPS are being extended to include homes with three or more bedrooms in England and Wales. The banks insist they would not require buyers to organise a second pack but have admitted they would want the first report scrutinised by a solicitor - something the packs were supposed to rule out.
