36 year-old Stephan Frucht combines art and industry and has been one of the most important men in the German cultural scene since May 2006. He is business manager of the cultural circle of the Feration of German Industries in Berlin. The cultural circle supports young artists and advises companies who wish to be involved in culture. Members range from DAX-listed concerns to medium-sized businesses. Frucht has an artistic background and considers culture as a strong location factor. He says that in Germany, the cultural industry has an annual turnover of 73 billion euros, and estimates that 600 million euros come from the private sector.Whether this sponsorship can continue at this level is now in question, because many firms are cutting their cultural budgets due to the financial crisis. It's a lively topic at the many events Stephan Frucht has organised. A report by Ute Schneider.
