POLITICS: Labour General Secretary Peter Watt resigns over party funding row

A key Labour Party official has resigned in the latest scandal over party funding. It is yet another blow for Gordon Brown who is already under intense pressure in what has been his most damaging month so far as Prime Minister. General Secretary Peter Watt resigned from his post after admitting he knew that a wealthy businessman had disguised donations of 400,000 pounds in order to keep his identity secret. Mr Watt insisted he had no idea that the arrangement might be illegal.
