The Metropolitan Police Commissioner has been heavily criticised by members of the Force's governing body over the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes. The Brazilian was shot dead at Stockwell Tube Station in July 2005 when police officers mistook him for a suicide bomber. Commissioner Sir Ian Blair heard some on the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) condemn the way he handled information about the shooting. He admitted the force got it "appallingly wrong", but insisted he would not resign.
