Plane crashed in Hudson due to bird strike, Commuter flight to Charlotte, 146 Passengers Airbus 320 NEWS REPORT: (New York City, NY 1/15/2009) A US Airways twin engine Airbus A320 crashed in the Hudson River around 2 eastern time Thursday afternoon. Flight 1549 had 146 people and a crew of five aboard the plane at the time of the crash. News helicopters showed the plane floating and surrounded by ferry boats. Passengers could be seen being rescued from the wings of the plane. A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says the flight had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport.
