Tens of thousands of Palestinians have rallied in Gaza and the West Bank calling for national reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas. The demonstration comes after both Fatah and Hamas agreed early this week in Sanaa to a Yemeni-sponsored reconciliation initiative that honors dialogue between the two sides. Several civil society organizations as well as local community leaders and chiefs of clans in the territory, took part in the rallies. Palestinian flags were raised and participants shouted slogans calling for national unity. The organizers said the rally had three goals. First was to demonstrate that the Palestinian people can bring about change in the internal political rivalry. Second was to send a message to all political factions that the Palestinian people have chosen reconciliation. Third was to urge the participants in this week's Arab summit in Damascus that the Palestinian issue must be on the agenda.
