Nov 25: BHP Billiton scraps Rio offer
BHP Billiton on Tuesday abandoned its year-long pursuit of Anglo-Australian mining rival Rio Tinto, saying the bid was no longer in the best interests of shareholders amid the “continued deterioration of near-term global economic conditions”. Rebecca Bream, mining correspondent, talks to Daniel Garrahan about whether the move will spark off consolidation elsewhere in the mining industry.
