New Poll Shows 80% of Emergency Physicians Worried About Overcrowding

A new poll from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) shows that nearly 80% (1,200 of 1,496) of emergency physicians are concerned about overcrowded emergency rooms. In addition to the crowded conditions, half of the physicians polled had personally encountered a patient who had suffered because of "boarding", which is a practice in which admitted emergency patients wait for an inpatient bed in the hospital, often in hallways. To help improve these conditions, The ACEP is calling for an Emergency Patients' Statement of Rights that includes the "Right To Move Out of the Emergency Department into an Inpatient Area Once Admitted to the Hospital".
