New clean edit of Bruno for under 18s

Spoof documentary Bruno is to become the first movie showing simultaneously in UK cinemas with two different age classifications. The 18-certificate version - which topped the box office in its first weekend of release - has been sent back to the editing suite to produce a slightly shorter version suitable for audiences aged 15 and over. The film, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen as a gay Austrian fashionista, features a sado-masochistic orgy, full-frontal nudity and an interview with a real terrorist. The initial version was given an 18 certificate by the British Board of Film Classification. Universal Pictures has announced the toned-down version will be released in cinemas on Friday, July 24. President of Universal Pictures International (UPI), David Kosse, said: "Due to the overwhelming demand by fans who are desperate to see the film, we're really pleased to be able to offer a 15 certificate version." The edited version will be one minute and 50 seconds shorter than the original. Onto the cutting room floor goes one scene featuring a montage of sexual activity involving Bruno and his boyfriend, another of Bruno miming sexual activity while visiting a medium and a third scene depicting a swingers' party.
