Negotiators agree on budget hiking sales tax

(NECN: Alysha Palumbo, Boston, Mass.) - Massachusetts lawmakers will vote on Friday on a budget that cuts spending and hikes the sales tax. But planned toll increases have been put on hold. Negotiators for the Massachusetts House and Senate agreed on Thursday night on a $27.4 billion budget for the state fiscal year, which begins on July 1st. As part of the agreed upon budget, the state's sales and meals taxes will be raised from 5 to 6.25-percent. read more
