In order to save their plantations from ruin, British plantation owners wrote to India requesting that "Coolies" be shipped as human cargo to labor on the plantations under a system known as Indian indentureship. Under the system, the British planters lied to the British Parliament that the Indians would be paid for their work and proper housing, schools and hospitals would be provided to them on the colonies. However, when the Indians arrived on the colony, the British planters returned to their wicked ways and the Indians were met with brutal and inhumane treatment. Now thousands of helpless men, women and children are abandoned to want, that the growth of sugar may not languish in Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica, Suriname, Fiji, Mauritius and other parts of the West Indies and the Caribbean.
