Mother and partner start jail over Sanam Navsarka's death

A mother and her boyfriend are beginning jail sentences for killing a toddler who sustained more than 100 injuries during months of abuse. Two-year-old Sanam Navsarka died after suffering 107 separate external injuries. All her limbs had been fractured. Her mother Zahbeena Navsarka was found guilty of her daughter's manslaughter and partner Subhan Anwar was convicted of murder at Bradford Crown Court. Anwar was jailed for life and will serve a minimum of 23 years while Navsarka was sentenced to nine years The pair, both 21, from Riddings Road, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, had denied repeatedly assaulting Sanam over a month-long period or encouraging each other by standing by and doing nothing to save the little girl. The jury was told the defendants left Sanam alone and dying in their home while they went to register with their GP on the day of her death. Her broken thigh bones caused fatty deposits to enter her bloodstream which resulted in her death. The court also heard how tiny handprints and bloodstains were found inside cupboards at the home in Huddersfield and at a former property on Howley Walk, in Batley, West Yorkshire. The couple claimed Sanam had stopped breathing after they left her alone in the bath for ten minutes and returned to find her under the water.
