Roedad Khan: When I got up I am an early rider I heard in news that Zivil Government of zulfiqar ali Bhutto had been toppled and military had taken over. At that time we didn't know who Zia ul Haq was. But at the very first meeting he appointed me as an Interior Secretary responsible for internal security and law and order situation. I realised that we were dealing with a different kind of man now. A mercy petition was submitted which I personally processed and zia just had a glimpse at it. And he rejected it without reading it. He had the power to discard the death penalty and you know why he didn't do it? He told me and I quote: "Roedad Khan its either his neck or mine -- ZULFIQAR ALI BHUTTO has to die." But I must say Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto met his death very bravely. At that morning at gallows -- he did not break down -- he did not collapse. He died in a very dignified manner. Mir Murtaza Bhutto: Well I don't want to say much -- I came here just to tell you that it was a tragedy. And they have tried to break my father and they have tortured him for 2 years -- they couldn't do that, they have tried to ruin his political name and now they have killed him.
